Le Metier de Beaute Lip Creme in Creme de la Creme Swatches, Photos, Review

Here's to hoping you're not tired of reading about Le Metier de Beaute products, because this week's Messy Wands feature is dedicated to their glorious lip cremes.

The Le Metier de Beaute Lip Creme ($36) is a cross between a lipstick and a gloss, and like the brand's eyeshadows, are meant for mixing and layering. I was as enamored with these as I was with their eye kaleidoscopes. I love the idea of owning unique colors and the ability to change something unflattering into another better suited to my own needs. The lip cremes serve both purposes with aplomb.

LMdB Creme de la Creme

It is only fitting to begin from the most basic. If my memory serves me, Creme de la Creme was the first LMdB item I bought from Dustin. Like a little fledgling looking for guidance, I asked him to recommend the one lip creme I "absolutely have to have." In response, he pulled this unassuming milky shade out of the colorful lineup.

Truth be told, at the time I was disappointed with his choice. Can you imagine looking at rich, vibrant shades like Fraise Creme and Cocoa Creme (the two leftmost shades in the first picture) and forgoing them for this sheer... thing? But I bit my lip and didn't say a word, because at that point he was coloring the back of his hand with a lipstick to demonstrate how this worked. I am now glad I held my tongue, because Creme de la Creme would later prove to be among my most prized possessions.

For those apprehensive about deep reds or "too vibrant" colors, Creme de la Creme is the perfect wand to tone things down a notch. Creme de la Creme is made to be a layering shade that lightens, brightens, and softens the color beneath it. You can mix it with any lipstick from any brand, and it'll be like you added a drop of glow to the ol' shade.

Le Metier de Beaute Lip Cremes are creamy, lightweight, and faintly sticky. They feature a heavy vanilla scent that initially put me off, but over time I've come to enjoy. Lip cremes are as easy to apply as your typical doe foot swipe-and-go gloss. The lighter shades like Creme de la Creme stay on for about 4-5 hours while the darker ones tend to enjoy a longer weartime.

Do come back for a visit throughout the week as I will be featuring the rest of my lip creme collection. I also have a surprise tutorial (I promise nothing short of makeup enlightenment) planned for this weekend and I can't wait for you to read it!

  1. Wow! I love how it brightens the lips when layered with the darker red shade. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this new gem with us.

  2. I always find that it's the things I'd never choose myself that I end up loving the most- looks great on it's own or layered, Dustin is a gun!

  3. I cant believe I dont have this lip creme yet. Need it.

  4. Beautiful! I am looking forward to seeing Fraise Creme swatched and applied in your upcoming posts. I ordered Fraise from NM and they send me Framboise by mistake. So I returned it, ordered Fraise again, and the did the same thing! Before I make a third attempt, could you tell me if Fraise contains shimmer/glitter? It looks like it might be a strawberry red with gold flecks.

    I love the colors and textures of LMdB Creme Gloss, but I was sorely disappointed with what my lips looked like after Summerland wore off. I had glitter transfer practically up my nose! I am hoping it was just that one, which is highly metallic.

    Creme de la Creme looks like a gloss I can get behind for its versatility. It certainly looks beautiful on you, especially paired with Monaco, a color I had not considered but am now reconsidering. :) I like how CdlC added dimension to your lower lip. Really lovely.

  5. BEAUTIFUL! Love the pictures and I adore this product as well. Can't wait for the tutorial!

  6. Great Blog!!!! Your writing skills are amazing. I also appreciate your attention to great photography. S

  7. Fabulous post!

    Zuzu I can't believe NM did that to you!? That's like them sending me 3 tubes in a row of Ibiza lipstick that were all loose in the tube. Infuriating!

  8. Wow! Creme de la creme truly does look stunning over Morocco. It's great to find such versatile shades. I'll definitely be checking it out.

  9. Is Creme de la Creme similar to Vanilla Rose? I love the lip cremes but wouldn't want to get two that were very similar! Thank you and I look forward to swatches of the rest!

  10. I just found your blog a day or two ago...you always look gorgeous in your pictures! Do you have your skin tone posted somewhere?
    Also, do you happen to have any monolid eye makeup tips? (I see you have a crease, so maybe that's a silly question, but I thought I'd ask anyway!)

  11. This is a strange request, but would you like to trade lips with me? Also, do you think any sheer, milky gloss would do, or is this LMdB one a must-have?

  12. @Kristie indeed! I love that it could be used with any shade at all, even lighter ones

    @emmabovary indeed he is :)

    @lux2smilexo time for some investin'!

    @Zuzu's Petals I scrutinized my pictures of Fraise Creme and found tiny tiny microshimmer. Your description of it is very close (except in my mind flecks are much larger, so think gold microdust?). Fraise Creme is one of my favorites to wear alone. :) I will be posting pictures of Fraise in a couple of days so you can have a look yourself.

    I echo PerilouslyPale's sentiment. I can't believe that happened with NM! :(

    @Elvira Yay support for the tutorial! I'm being so sneaky about it I hope it doesn't disappoint :P

    @Anonymous Thank you for your kind words! :)

    @PP That happened to you?! That must have been so frustrating

    @Alex Kay you won't regret it!

    @Anonymous According to Dustin, Vanilla Rose has opal tones and luminescence, whereas Creme de la Creme is beige and flat. I would say Vanilla Rose is more similar to Sweet Creme (exact difference unknown since I don't own VR) than to CdlC!

    @Agmini Thank you :) I don't have my skin tone posted up yet but that shall be remedied very soon! I'm sorry I'm not very sure about monolids (I'm still not sure what my right eye is...) but I would suggest looking at pictures/editorials of Hyoni Kang or similar monolidded models and analyze how they apply their makeup. :)

    @Michelle Hahaha, it's definitely a first! The thing about LMdB lip cremes is it is made to blend with the color beneath it to produce the effect you see in the images above. I don't know if any other sheer, milky gloss will do the same since those will probably just sit on top of your base lip color.

  13. OMG, i want!!!! WOW... loving Creme de la Creme...

  14. Don't know if it's just me but I can't find this shade in lemetierdebeaute.com Has it been discontinued??? Was it a Limited Edition? I have a friend flying to the States and was preparing my wish-list, hahaha I have also written Creme Caramel!!! Thank you for making me spend so much money, hahahaha just joking, I love your blog!
