Lipstick Bandits: The First One

Your friendly neighborhood bandits (er, lipstick junkies) are back to bring you another edition of joint lemming creation. This time it's the first lipstick we ever purchased or The One That Started It All, "It" being the irrational need to collect every lip color (and then some) on earth. I have long forgotten what my first lipstick was - I didn't know at that time the little tube would represent such a big part of my life, but I do remember my first high end lipstick. It was when Chanel just introduced the Rouge Coco formula and everyone everywhere was saying how perfect Vanessa Paradis was in the promo pic and her lips! Her lips were the epitome of perfect, apparently. And maybe I wanted perfect lips too.

... There's a large amount of hyperbole there. It must be all the TV shows I've been watching that brought on all this drama. For all I know I just wanted to own a Chanel lipstick. Either way, I went home with Rouge Coco Mademoiselle after making friends with a Chanel SA at my local Macy's.

I chose the Rouge Coco formula because it was said to be the most moisturizing of all the Chanel lipsticks (which I later found was false. The Rouge Allures fare much better in that aspect) and Mademoiselle for the rosiness. I can't say this about all Rouge Cocos, but Mademoiselle is really comfortable to wear. It is taste free and has a light scent (unidentified) in the tube but doesn't linger on the lips. While it isn't drying, I don't find that it has any moisturizing properties because I'll need a dose of balm 5-6 hours in. But at some point I start to wonder if it's due to the lipstick or the fact that I don't drink as much liquids with lipstick on.

On Eyes: Sunday Riley Lady Godiva; On cheeks: Burberry Light Glow in Tangerine Blush No. 06

Ah, the ponderings of a beauty blogger.

Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle retails for $32.50 and can be purchased from chanel.com.

I'm off to see what my fellow bandits have in store for me. Hold on to your purses, ladies, because resisting the urge to buy buy buy is going to be tough:

  1. Ever since I saw that Vanessa Paradis ad I thought this lipstick was perfect. It looks great on you, thanks for the swatch x

  2. This is my first lipstick love too! I was leaving comments on other bandits' blogs and then I saw this! It was Jenny from My Funny Valentine who lured me to the dark side lol

I love how it brightens my face up instantly, even when I'm looking a little off or dull. I wear it on top of a layer of balm or dab it on when I just want a little color, but when I want full impact of this lipstick one layer would do. There's some magic about this one...

  3. That's such a pretty color! I remember ripping out one of those Vanessa Paradis Coco Mademoiselle ads from a magazine and pinning it on my wall b/c it was so pretty. LOL! >___<

    Have a great week!

  7. Hi^5!

Chanel Rogue Coco is got me too! Before Rogue Coco, I was a gloss girl through and through and I hated lipsticks.

Rogue Coco really got me going. And I chose Mademoiselle as one of my first three Chanel too! With Legende and Sycamore as my other two.

  9. YOU SO PRETTY!! I could stare at you ALL DAY.
You know, I still don't have this one! Why am I so silly? Must rectify. It's just so perfect! Great pick!

  10. I don't own a Rouge Coco. Or any Chanel lipsticks, actually, though I occasionally buy them for my mom. Hmmm...

    Also. WHY YOU SO PRETTY??????????

  11. Xiao, you look so amazing with your hair up! And Gabrielle is so gorgeously sophisticated on you - or maybe it's just because you have such otherwordly cheekbones? Either way, I wish I got this one instead of Sari Dore! x

  12. How pretty is your makeup here?? Why are you so pretty all the time?

Love this shade, a very worthy first lipstick! Also, you mentioned the Rouge Allures being more moisturizing, which of those would you recommend/are your favorite?

  13. XIAO STOP MAKING EVERYTHING LOOK SO PRETTY! *pouts*

You make Mademoiselle look absolutely perfect, my dear. And your hair; your hair!! /flails

  14. Ah, Mademoiselle, such a lovely shade!

  15. I forgot I had mademoiselle. But it leans more coral-y on me, though. Boo! I should start wearing it again.

Also, your face. It is pretty. :)

  16. It was definitely the Rouge Cocos that stepped me up from MAC to the big leagues (much to the chagrin of my purse). I didn't buy that one, I bought Rivoli because I'm a red hog. lol I agree with you on the Allures being more moisturizing. They feel better on my lips.

  17. Mademoiselle is a great pick for a starter lipstick. It's so versatile, flattering, and has a certain sophistication.

  18. I've passed Mademoiselle up time and time again ... and here you go making me want it! AND Lady Godiva. I really need to get my hands on some Sunday Riley.

  19. Great theme! And such a lovely color on you, Xiao. For me it was NARS Schiap. It made me realize that makeup isn't so much about covering up flaws as it is about simply having fun with color.

  20. I love Mademoiselle, infact i'm wearing it now.
The color is so lovely n suits any occasions.

I personally think u are truly Asian beauty and u have a good skin complexion.

  21. Hmm...so much for the moisturizing effect huh? The color is pretty, but I think any lipstick, despite claims to be moisturizing, chaps lips easily.

  22. That one is gorgeous!!! Why don't I have it in my chanel lipsticks collection??? I need it!!! :)

  23. Thanks for the nicest words, you guyss! And um, the whole Chanel thing (and by extension, high end makeup obsession) is ALL Vanessa Paradis' fault. I blame it on her!

I'm trying to turn on the "reply to comment" feature on Blogger so that it's easier to reply to each of you, but nothing is working in the settings. Any blogger/tech savvy reader want to help me out? :P

Makeup Morsels- Rouge Allures hands down!

  24. I'm with Rae on the hair although I'll leave the flailing to her just because she does it so well :) I didn't quite fall in love with the Chanel Rouge Coco range, but that shade looks amazing on you. Amazing!

  25. Mademoiselle look incredible on you! Love it! Funny how different one lipstick can look from one person to the next. I wish it looked like that on me. xo

  26. I love love love LOVE mademoiselle! It is definitely one of my go to lipsticks whenever I do bridal make up! As suspected, it looks beautiful on you as well :D

  27. i love burberry tangerine! thank you for reminding me that i had it tucked away, forgotten, in the bottom of a drawer. i am wearing it today and it is lovely. on another note, and i hope you don't mind...have you any thoughts on lmdb skincare? i have tried samples of their (anti-aging) day cream which i love- wears under foundation extrememly well. but i do need sunscreen which it does not contain. have you tried the replenishing moisture/sunscreen? and are there any 'must haves' as far as you are concerned? was thinking of ordering the cleanser and one of the day creams to start.... would love your opinion :)

  28. Paris- we need to see your flails, lady >:)

katie- OH I have so much feelings about LMdB skincare! I own the day cream, replenishing daily solution, toner, cleanser, and generous samples of the night cream and eye cream. The thing about the skincare and why I haven't written a review about it is I'm not the targeted audience for it. My skin doesn't need anti-aging yet (what can i say? I start young) so I don't actually *see* a difference.

The cleanser is one of the best I've tried so far. I remember the first time I used it, I felt as if I haven't known "clean skin" before. Awesome product (and at $50 is not too hard to swallow).

As for the rest, my mother is in her mid-50s and I got her the night cream, eye cream, and replenishing daily solution. I have to say after using the stuff her skin became radiant and her wrinkles were severely diminished (unless she smiles. you can't and shouldn't get rid of smile lines!). There's a natural dewiness to her skin now, and she looks really really really good.

    I hope that helps? :x

  29. This is very pretty Xiao! Great my-lips-just-naturally-look-this-great shade. I don't own any Chanel lipsticks (yet), but this seems like a great starting point!
