A Year Of Faces

I thought of compiling my favorite looks throughout the year in one handy little post, but it just ended up being a lot of my face, so I realize this post may be a little narcissistic, but let's trudge on. It's kind of fun to see how my face changed throughout the year (or thankfully, didn't. Yes that clock has started ticking). I'll say my eyebrows looked fabulous in the beginning of the year, though. I wonder what I was doing then?

As much as possible, I tried to find photos previously unpublished. There may be some repeats, but I hope you enjoy!

March

June

July

August

I don't think I ever posted this, but I like this particular blush placement and the nude lips. Now if only I knew what I used /cries

September

Didn't publish this Peter Som NYFW Fall 2012 runway recreation because I laughed at myself after.

I combed through the archives and couldn't find this, so here! I think this was taken the week I started having the urge to chop off my hair and I remember I wanted to have a photo of myself in waves before it was all gone. I was wearing literally only one product on my face/eyes/lips - Mistura 6-in-1 Beauty Solution. It worked, but it did make me look a little warmer than usual.

I did this look after I procured Chanel Notorious but for some reason never published it. I think it was a recreation of Vera Wang NYFW Fall 2012, but I cannot be sure anymore. Burberry Porcelain on lids, Notorious to contour!

I hope you've enjoyed reading and found inspiration from Messy Wands throughout the year!

PS I kind of like you with long hair better :p

  2. What a great idea! Whilst I love how you look with long hair its the crop that wins for me, its so edgy and cool I think it really suits you and it flatters your delicate features rather than swamping them which maybe your longer hair did a bit. Happy New Year!

  5. Happy new year Xiao! I really enjoy your blog. And I have to tell you, you wear short hair very well!

  6. My favorite looks on you tend to be those in which you're wearing cooler tones (LOVE the LM Spring and the LMdB Northern Lights looks), or when you're wearing a bold red lippie - you pull it off SO well, Xiao! I also really like the look of LMdB's Nouvelle Vague...softly edgy and sexy. And the copper and blue!! I definitely got inspiration from that look. But of course, you always look lovely! :)

  10. This is incredibly unfair - you can do no wrong with makeup!

Some of my favourite Xiao looks are in this post and I am dying over the October Armani look. LOVE YOU AND MESSY WANDS SO MUCH. <3

  11. I love this! It's cool to see what made it into the blog and what didn't during the year - it's like a sneak peek behind the curtain / a pile of treasures you saved up all year for us :) You look amazing and I'm definitely inspired by your looks and voice. Thank you, Happy New Year and as always, I look forward to more!

  12. Oh, I especially love March and August! Red lips versus Sweet Look.

And your pixie cut seemed to release the daredevil in you! Avant garde yet simplistic.

You're really one of those editorial bloggers! I can never pose and look like that.

  13. I love March! You can rock red lips like no other.

  14. I love the clean, nude August look you did, it's so fresh! such a shame you couldn't remember what you used, it's a nude that suits you (I find it so difficult to find one that doesn't wash me out).
Another of my favourites is the clean lines and cat eyes and the Armani fall campaign that you recreated.

I love that you experiment with so many looks on here, not many bloggers are willing to do that. You do them well too. I can't wait to see what 2012 has in store.

  16. Such a fun review! I particularly appreciated the October Armani photo, since in your original post the hat sort of covered up the eye look. Are we voting for favorites? Mine is the Copper + Blue editiorial, since you've made a unique look wearable by perfectly balancing colors. Come 2013, I hope you'll do more of these editorial types of looks, as you have a very deft hand at reinterpreting them for everyday wear.

Have a great Happy New Year's Eve.
